My grandfather served with royal engineers from 11.3.1896. In 1900 he sailed for S.Africa and joined the 8th division R Engineers. His medals were sent to Canada and I’m now unable to recover or record them for our Family History. He also served in WW1. Is there a govt dept that could confirm my grandfathers awards please. I realise this may be a simplistic question but I don’t know how to go about to find this information.

Hello lifa12a
Welcome to the forum.
Is it possible you can provide your Grandfather's name? Any information may help the forum to help answer your request.

thank you Dave - his name is Edward Fitton I think his number was 3514. He was in 8th Division Royal Engineers. He was later the Secretary of the South African War Veterans'Association in Birmingham.

Your Grandfather's medal entitlement for the Boer War was a Queens South Africa medal with 3 clasps. Wittebergen, Cape Colony & Transvaal. Also a Kings South Africa medal with the usual date clasp 1901 & 1902.
His WW1 entitlement was a British War Medal and Victory Medal, he was also entitled to a Territorial Force Army medal.
Paper work enclosed, I have not found his K S A medal roll yet. I will of course upload, if I find it.

QSA roll

WW1 Medal card

WW1 medal paper work.

Territorial medal paper work.
