I was born in Germiston in the old Transvaal and our family spent our annual holidays in Durban or thereabouts. Our trips down were often sidetracked by my dad wishing to visit some of the many battlefields on our route as he had a keen interest in the ABW.
An interest he passed on to me despite me now living in Canada.
It encouraged my son and I one of our many visits to SA to produce a video on the Strathcona's Horse Regiments role in the ABW as we discovered many Canadians had very little knowledge of this regiment's role in the war.
We have managed to get our video onto Youtube under the general heading of Strathcona's Horse. It runs for close to 40 minutes and is, we hope, a fair portrayal of Canada's involvement in the war.
