Im hoping to find details of Alexander George Patterson service number 3414 2nd battalion Royal Irish Rifles. I have heard he was taken prisoner at some stage and that he was also wounded too. He received the queens south Africa 3 clasps, Kings SA medal with 2 clasps. Any details found would be gratefully received

Welcome to the Forum.
Your GGU - 3414 Pte. Patterson, J of 2nd RIR - is shown in Palmer as PoW at Reddersburg on 3-4th April, 1900. He is shown as being "released". Your GGF was probably serving at the time of the Stormberg action as well. You can find details of the Reddersberg action under Royal Irish Rifles in the Unit Information panel at the LHS of this page.

IL.

Much appreciated Linneyl. That was fast work. Im hoping to fill in all the empty slots and correct all the handed down incorrect info . Its been very interesting up to now. He served in the Great war too,, from Pte to Staff sergeant major. Ive found where he is buried too. Thanks again. Mickster
