You're most welcome, Bev. The Spanish Flu was in 1918-19 though, but perhaps she died of long-term effects.

According to the National Archives of SA's online inventory, her deceased estate file is in the Archives in Pietermaritzburg, and the estate file for James Patrick Lyons (d 1954) is in the Archives in Pretoria. The Genealogical Society might be able to help you get info from the files, if you want to explore those sources.

Thanks so much Arthur - yes, I was surprised to see her death date on the grave, as we'd always been told she'd died of Spanish flu, and then the dates don't match.

James' date of death is on the Archives online inventory : the estate file was opened in 1954 (Archives reference MHG 3978/54).

The Genealogical Society's website is genza.org.za/index.php/en/ . Click on 'branches' for a dropdown menu which will lead you to the pages for the Northern Transvaal branch (in Pretoria) and the Natal Midlands branch (in Pietermaritzburg). Each branch page has email contact details.
