A nice clean copy of the well-known medic's photograph, in the form of a magic lantern slide.

After all these years I finally made my pilgrimage to Spioenkop and it was awesome. There is something special about seeing the terrain and the conditions that the brave men on both sides fought under.

Been able to show respect to all involved is something special, the view is something to behold and no wonder it was of strategic importance.

I went with the good folks at Three Tree Hill and picked up the all important "must read book" on the campaign....thanks Rob for all your efforts as it will be remembered for generations to come.

Looking towards Spioenkop from Three Tree Hill from the British perspective and where they passed by on their way to the spur:

Where the British crossed the Tugela; notice the lodge from where the first picture was taken:

The ground is so deceptive, this was from the Boer perspective; notice how only the top of the memorial is in view:

Speak my name so that I may live again

Thank you Sturgy for your pictures from your visit. It sounds like an excellent visit.

It is great to see the site continues to be very well maintained.

A better copy of the Lund Brothers photograph (No. 4) previously posted by Rob HERE, together with the later doctored version, with the addition of the Tugela landscape in the distance and "Lund Bros / Kroonstad O.V.S." erased.

And another Lund Bros image (No. 5), of van Hoepen on Spion Kop summit. The breastwork in the distance on the right (left-hand end) was the location of the above view. The arrow marks the spot where the three bodies lay.
