Killed in action at Klipplaate, Eastern Cape, on 6th February 1901.

On 14th February 1903, W.W Marks, The Hon. Secretary of the Committee formed to secure the construction of the Memorial, published a list of all known casualties, appealing for any additional names that should be considered.

Of the 230 men commemorated on the Memorial, 169 died of disease, 47 of them specifically of 'enteric fever'.
Enteric fever is a collective term for infections caused by Salmonella bacteria, specifically typhoid fever (caused by Salmonella Typhi) and paratyphoid fever (caused by Salmonella Paratyphi A, B, or C). WikipediA
