Here is an old postcard of the monument in PMB. Does anyone know if it is still there:

I have a contact in Pietermaritzburg I will ask if it is still there. I have a scanned document from a news paper or book?? which came from my father's papers?
it's description of this monument reads as follows:

"The Anglo Boer war Memorial in Pietermaritzburg is surmounted by a large angel. The eight panels contain, apart from the inscriptions, with the names of the fallen, symbolic scenes. The main legend on the octagonal base commemorates the Volunteers, Natal Police and other Natal Colonists who died for their sovereign and country.
The sculptor was George E. Wade of London."

Also interesting to note there are/were gardens called the "Carbineer Gardens" (also a type of memorial). There are three or four war monuments from around 'this era' all situated within close proximity to each other. One is directly opposite this one. I won't mention the others unless someone is interested!

As far as I know it is still there and is in a garden opposite City Hall.

Cheers,

Mark
