Hello Stewart

Thanks for checking, I hold out hope of tracking down his grave, the other died of wounds is a Liverpool man who is buried in Machadodorp, I assume the same for Gould but not found, there is an unknown grave. He either died in transit to hospital or was with the POW column enroute to Dullstroom and was buried and the location is lost to history, any how when you get the chance see what you can find, if anything.
I live about 100km from Helvetia and have visited many times, still relatively intact with the trenches and fort still visible.
Regards
Jonathan

According to this website, Captain Wallis's body was found in 1909 on Plewman's Farm

Thank you for your interest and reply - the Firth VC action is indeed the same action.

That is fantastic news about the Helvetia cemetery and the dangers etc. I visited there in the 80s just after the plantation was planted and was very worried that it would be lost. When I visited one could still find cartridge cases there. I have some interesting stuff on Helvetia e.g. Cotton court martial hearing documents - if of interest send me your email address.
