Thank you for showing another remarkable memorial. I had not heard of 'weeping' varieties of trees being used to complement a memorial, but what a great idea! How common is it?

Brett

Hi Brett

I don't know about other memorial parks......

But.......

In and around Memorial Park here in Calgary location of Boer War Memorial, WW1, WW2 and Korea Cenotaph and P.P.C.L.I. Memorial is a border of Poplar, Weeping Willow trees (Salix alba 'Vitellina-Tristis') and Weeping Caragana, (Caragana arborescens 'Pendula')........

This may be (another) innovation of which Canadians can feel proud.

Agreed. I can't think of anything similar that I've seen in the UK.

I do wish I'd known at the time that an individual tree is dedicated to an ABW soldier, I'd have looked around for a plaque or marker.

Hi Brett.....

I am not so sure that it was done on purpose, maybe the city gardener at the time the park was set up thought of it but they are extremely hardy trees and can stand our winters........

During the dirty 30's the various types of the Caragana were given free to the farmers to form windrows on the prairies to stop soil erosion......

Planted on purpose or not, the trees add another dimension to the memorials and should still be viewed with pride.
