I have enjoyed my collecting/researching for a long time.

In fact, when I was in my mid-fifties the clash between my career as Consulting Engineer and my medallic hobby was so intense that one had to go. Guess which one!!!

On Trafalgar day, Back to the Future day and Elandslaagte day, here is the news headline from The Times on 21st October recounting the previous day's engagement on Talana Hill.

Hi
This is a day late but we had a power problem when I wanted to scan yesterday.
Herewith images of QSA's to 2 non-combatants who were present at the Battle of Elandslaagte.

Babajee's medal would have had 4 bars, including Elandslaagte, if bronze QSA recipients had been granted that privilege.

On QSA roll Mellors is confirmed as the guard of the armoured train at Elandslaagte.

However, in the Black and White Budget of Dec 9, 1899 there is an indistinct photo of Mellors where he is described as "The guard (x) who took the armoured train into action at Elandslaagte.

The above image also illustrates the work of the Dhooly Bearers.

Can any member enlighten me as to whether Black and White magazine is accessible on-line? It may well contain a better quality image than the Budget edition.

Thank you for another great contribution to this forum. I particularly like the Dooly Bearer medal.

A great pair of medals! Some time ago I went looking for the Black and White Budget on line and only ended up with a CD of issues 1 - 34 and the illustrations on that are still often muddy. Hardly surprising, though the page images on the CD are a bit more crisp than my used, bound version. Would there have been a version of the B&W Budget on better paper?
