Chris - I don't collect medals but I do collect people, especially "Smethwickians" who served in the South African (Boer) War 1899-1902. There are two Neale's in my database and the link below leads to the post I did on the most interesting. Samuel Henry Neale (1/GH) was badly wounded in the Battle of Magersfontein and the Bullers' visited the hospital he was in in SA. Lady B took a shine to him and over several years paid for the treatment he received in the UK. Once when the Bullers' were travelling up north by train she asked if Daniel could be brought to New St station in Birmingham so she could see how Daniel was getting on. As a result the other passengers had a longer stop at Birmingham than they expected.

The other was called Daniel Ezekiel Neale (2/RWR) who died of disease at De Aar on 29 January 1900. Both were awarded a QSA with one clasp - Cape Colony.

Regards, David.
