Hello Paul,
Well certainly worth looking for, but, still a good honest medal, why did you chose that particular one, I wonder, with all those others on offer?
Regards Frank

Hello Frank,

I purchased off one of our members Doug, so I knew it came from a reliable source.
I seem to purchasing South African units lately, so this one ticked the boxes.
Some nice medals on display yesterday, but most past my budget.

Hello Paul,
I always used to have an idea of what I was looking for at any fair I was at, but, sometimes you just see something else that ticks every box, I liked the SAMIF and I still do.
The Johannesburg MR was a good regiment and had some rather interesting people serving in it's ranks.
It was actually raised in Johannesburg on the 18th of January 1901, it proved quite popular and a second regiment was raised a little later on, but, unlike the original regiment it only had a single squadron, the original was supposed to have six squadrons, it was emalgamated soon after and the regiment was disbanded on the 7th of July 1902 after vereeniging.
So Paul, I would just continue down this road until you feel you want to move down another one!
Kind regards Frank

Good Morning David.....

Actually in 3 Sizes: 70mm, 52mm and 44mm

2 Metals: Silver / Bronze

2 Types: Queen's and King's

A total of 12 different.

On ebay this weekend a 70mm King's in Silver sold for $625 and a 52mm Queen's in Bronze sold for $321.00...... The seller said they were in original cases.....

So you got yourself a good deal.....

I wish we had these Fair's over here instead of out one big show a year.....

Mike

The medal was quite compact. Probably 5cm diameter?

The dealer mentioned he had seen them in two sizes, this example being the smaller of the two.

Cost £85.

Kind regards

That's useful information Mike. Many thanks.

I didn't actually but the medal. I was content to photograph it.

The dealer's name I don't know. Paul/Doug, do you know this dealer's name. He was almost directly behind my table yesterday.

Sorry, no. I have been dealing with most of them for a while, but somehow never get some of their names!!

Doug.
