Smethwick, thank you for digging up these articles. If we take the Jingo Newspaper reports on number of Boers killed in action at face value, the entire male population of the Transvaal and Oranje Vrijstaat should have been depleted by the end of 1901.

Having trouble following your logic.

The reported casualties in all three incidents are fairly evenly balanced.

The last para of the third report says 150 Boers were taken out of the action for various reasons in 2 months. As the article was talking about Imperial success we can reasonably assume this figure was above the average. 150 in 2 months equates to only 900 per annum. We really need to know what was meant by the "district" to fully evaluate this. During the 32 month war about 25,000 Boers were taken out the action as PoW's - this alone equates to about 9,500 per annum,

Chris Ash ("Kruger's War" (ISBN 978-1-928211-99-0) gives us some interesting figures about Boer PoWs at various stages of the war:
p338 - in the first quarter of 1901, Boer losses were 4103, including 2223 who had either been taken prisoner or surrendered. In the second quarter, total losses were 7,299, of which 6138 ended up in British captivity. By the end of 1901, the British had inflicted casualties of 22417 for the year; of whom 17,715 had either been taken prisoner or surrendered of their own accord. 1500 a month or fifty a day.
p345/6 - The first three months of 1902 saw 3,533 prisoners taken with a further 861 Boers voluntarily turning themselves in.
