Conspicuously absent from the QSA Roll of the Natal Volunteer Medical Corps are the names of the18 nurses who "took the field in 1899. Some of the original 18 served in the Siege of Ladysmith." (Neville Gomm, SA Military History Journal, Vol. 1, No. 2, June 1968). This implies that more nurses joined the NVMC during the war.
I searched in vain through 175 of the 360 pages of 'WO100/229 Nurses' for a roll of the NVMC Nurses, but, there are so many pages that are undecipherable to my eyes, I decided to take a short-cut and ask if a forum member already has this roll, and is prepared to share it here.

Many thanks, Mike. That sounds like the book to answer many questions about nurses in the Boer War. Now to find a copy .......

Brett,

Try WO100/229 pages 221 and 222. There are 23 Nurses listed.

I was a little interested to note that Nursing Sister Craw had her medal presented to her by HM the King, I wonder what the circumstances were in her particular case.
