That's a fine picture. Many thanks David.

What identifies him as 21st Lancers>

What do you think his name is? Leonard Ure?

As listed on eBay. I would say that the chain mail epaulettes would identify the regiment as a lancer regiment. Only two lancers were present. 21st and 1st Bombay. Without racial profiling, no Bombay Lancer got the Sudan pair and a four clasp QSA and a KSA. The vender speculates "Vine" as the signature.

David and David
Just now, I had a look on my Cavalry QSA CD and no "L.Ure" or "L.Vine" appears thereon for any Cavalry Regiment. I cannot make anything else from the signature/dedication. However, I do wonder about "the Soldier Realist" part.

I too looked long and hard at that. But why sign it and go through the costs of a studio portrait if it is a set up?
I too have my doubts as its legitimacy though.

Perhaps the pic is a "dig" at the be-medalled veterans by someone who Kept-His-Head-Down! Hence the "Soldier Realist" part. WE'LL NEVER KNOW.
