can anyone illuminate me on my Grandfather John James Leeming who was in Q battery from 1895 to 1903- confirmed by army record on ancestry and his inscription on the flyleaf of a book The right o' the line. His name is not listed as present at Sannas Post but a letter from J W Booth's son suggests he may have been. I know very little about him but his Army record shows he was not always a good boy!

He was also in H Section Pom Pom Battery and does not appear to have the correct entitlement that you would expect to see for a member of Q Battery at Sanna's Post.

Hello

Can you post the letter or the piece that alludes to his service at Sanna's Post?

This section from his service record shows he joined the pom-poms on 01-02-1900 - before the action at Sanna's Post.

Hello
I will try and scan the letter and send it next week
It is dated 28.8.50 and was to my now dead half brother from Uncle Bob who I believe was a Booth relation. But may be someone else.
The sentence reads "Q Battery R.H.A.have a large panel on whichis carved the names of the men present at Sannas post when all were recommended for the V.C. My fathers and your grandfathers names are included there. someday we may go and see this memorial together"

thanks
david leeming

Interestingly, Leeming, appears not to have actually been posted back to Q Battery until the 1st of October 1902, by which time, the Anglo Boer War had ended.
