Hello Adrian,
I'd be very interested to know the results of your research into this unit.

Hello Adrian

My late Father wrote the article on the LIS for the SAMHJ. Bill Goldsworthy (the NZer Brett refers too) corresponded with my Father when he was putting his booklet together. You may find yourself going circles.

I am pretty sure the LIS doesn't have a medal roll and were an "un-official" unit, although my Father doubted they were a "loot corps".

Good luck in your resrach, if you turn up anything I would be pleased to know.

Hello Meurig,

Good to hear from you. Meurig, yes I already feel like I am going around in circles :(

I will be sure to let you know if I manage to find anything at all.

Hello Adrian,
Do you remember that last email you sent? let me remind you of that last sentence in it;
" It just goes to show that research never ends!"
Well, you are not wrong, I present Captain Forbes!

And in the remark column;

Needless to say, I think Captain Forbes needs to be looked at!
Hope you are well,
Very best regards Frank

I ask, as a friend has a QSA to a man that served in the 2nd Regt Kitcheners Fighting Scouts and on the roll page that he appears on, it makes mention that he had previous service in the Lebombo Intelligence Scouts.

I don't seem to find any mention of this unit anywhere other than on the SA Military Society web site.

Thanks in advance

Adrian

Hello Adrian

David Forbes (junior) has 2 1/2 pages of biography in my father's Biographical Register of Swaziland to 1902. He wrote this before his paper in the SAMHJ on the LIS, so you won't find anything new on the LIS but there is his life story.

As the Register was published by the University of Natal Press I hope you can find a copy in SA.

Hello Frank and Meurig,

Good stuff, thanks . Yes, research never ends as there is always more info out there somewhere. Meurig however, it seems that I have reached a dead end at the mo with the Lebombo scouts, i can't seem to find anything new to add to what I already have. This does not mean however, that it's the end of the road. I will keep digging.
