This is a query about the existence of a nominal roll for the BSAP.

For my Mafeking research, there are some men and an officer with no forenames. I would very much like to know their names as that also opens up other research avenues.

With thanks

Hi David

I am unaware of a published nominal roll, but there are several references/sources which may be useful in determining first names.
Could you publish a list of the unknowns on this forum , and we could all try resolve some of them as best possible ?

Of the power of the forum, I have no doubt!

Here is my list of BSAP men at Mafeking who are missing forenames.

2510 Trooper Bannister W

2524 Trooper Byrne J P. BB&M connects this man with service in the 1st Norfolk Regiment, 1881-93 (Private) (unconfirmed). Served in the BeR (631 Private) 20 October 1905 to 15 October 1906.

2462 Sergeant Cook A J. Wounded 31 Oct 1899

2590 Hospital Sergeant Crossman A

2481 Trooper Mackenzie A

Lieutenant Martin A H

2552 Trooper McKenzie C

2503 Acting Sergeant Mills T

2534 Trooper Nash G M

2581 Trooper Lidwill G - identified

2507 Trooper Smith G

1868 Sergeant Taylor A. Possibly Albert Taylor

2584 Trooper Welch M

2578 Corporal of Ordnance White J J. Born in Dublin, Ireland c 1874. Served in the BSAP for two years. Also served 1st KFS (2059 Trooper) 4 March to 5 July 1902. Trade: Chemist. NOK: Mrs Mary White, Dublin. Listed with just his initials on the KSF nominal roll.

2587 Trooper Willmot J

2506 Trooper Wood R. BB&M says served in the 1st Derby Regiment (unconfirmed)

Any help with these would be very much appreciated.

The only one Colin Walker's Siege Register could help with is -
Mills, THOMAS 2503 or possibly 2541.
