I have just spoken to the Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum. There are a couple of copies left in stock and another order will be sent to the printing company.

I’m delighted to hear from the Museum that sales of “War on the Veldt” have already necessitated a re-order of stock.

I’m very grateful for the interest shown by forum members and am interested to hear from anyone who has purchased a copy.

This is my first book and I intend to continue writing, so I would appreciate feedback of any kind and I would like to ask that when forum members have read their copy if they would be kind enough to give me their honest opinion, either in this thread or privately.

I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys the book.

Regards to all

The Museum is waiting on a new delivery of books. The website is set up so that when there is no stock available, the item is automatically removed from the shop and is only visible again when the stock is replenished.

Hi Ian,

Once again congratulations on the publication of your book and I am really enjoying it.

I’m currently researching the medal to Sjt Frank Goodridge, 2547, who was taken prisoner at the infamous white flag incident at Hobkirk’s Farm on 12 Feb 1900. He was married and became a father just before he left for South Africa.

I have his military records and I know that post war went on to become a Policeman.

I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind:

1. Have you come across any photographs to the NCO’s before they shipped out? A picture of him would be great.

2. At Hobkirks farm there was a high percentage of Sjt’s captures compared to other ranks (4 out of 5); if that’s right do you have a theory as to why that may be? Were the Australians helping the men to escape on horse and if so did the Sjt’s try to retire last? I’m trying to imagine the scene.

3. An entry was made in Frank Goodridge’s file noting the death of Vice Walkley on the 15th Feb 1900. I have passed it over as an error but have you seen this before or any idea why they would have done this? I assumed the entry referred to Sjt’s Edward Walkley who was KIA on the 14th Feb 1900.

Apologies for the lengthy questions but I thought I would come straight to the source.

Thanks again and appreciate any feedback.

Regards,
Shaun
