Hello Rory,

I think you will find he is W,Brawns who served as a Clerk with the Army Ordnance Corp. WO100/233 Page 227. It seems as if he was from East London.

I cant remember if we are allowed to post roll pages on the site.

Regards
Part time researcher of the Cape Police and C.P.G Regiment.

That is the man.

Army Ordnance Department, East London
Rank Clerk.
No clasp medal issued.
Served until 27 July 1902.
Address: Panmure Club, East London.

There is a column added to the roll, entitled 'Whether under written agreement. All the 7 men on the roll have an asterisk in this column. An explanatory note says, I think:

These men served under contract and signed agreement for 3 months under DDD (?) Order 455 ?? 13 5 1901
