My grandfather, Dr James Byrne Coleman went out at his own expense with Lord Iveaghs Irish Field Hospital. He was most insistent that it included female nurses. He was awarded CMG.
Over 1,000 nurses went out.Miss Mc Donnell was awarded the Royal Red Cross.
