Rory,

Wow! That's amazing!! How do I find links??
I went to the War Museum website:

www.ditsong.org.za/en/

It's not obvious. Where are you seeing all this, and the Free State Archives
request for employment? Amazing.

Best wishes, and so many thanks. Joss.

p.s. your two comments about the Transvaal and the 1907 request are my first
real breakthroughs on Harry in a decade. I've begun searching SA archive sites
but there's nothing coming through yet. Can you supply links? I am so grateful
to you.

Rory,

I have searched for Harry Renton sketches and diaries for many years. Your comment was a fantastic breakthrough for me. Vicky at Archives very kindly sent me 6 scanned sketches, one even with Harry's signature. Absolutely amazing! I have now distributed to the family. I am now hooked on the power of the "forum".
Sadly, Harry's amazing diaries have not been found to date, seen by my aunt in the 1930s.

I note from this AngloBoerWar website that there are several H Rentons that served; I know he was one. I now have to figure out which one. It's proving very
difficult to find any info on Harry, I think because he spent so much time going backwards and forwards between UK and S Africa in 1890-1910 period. It's hard to be sure where he married Johanna Ingram, and divorced her. He seems to have married again later in life. Johanna from S Africa, and her kids, spent a lot of time also travelling to UK and Australia. All confusing but I will push on.

So many thanks,
Joss.

David,

Your responses were wonderful and helped us a great deal. We
have the sketches now which are just great. We never did find
his illustrated diaries of the war which may be in a museum
somewhere. His brother Charles Renton's letters are in the
Imperial War Museum, London, for example.

There's a book on Boer War illustrators by Ryno Greenwall but
Amazon does not let you look at the index to see if he features.

I have now established that our Harry was Trooper Harry Renton.
Is there any way to access more information about his war record?

Very best wishes from Sydney, Joss.

I am so sorry to ask, but I never did find this link to Harry Renton's request for work. I went through several websites.
Can you help?

Best wishes joss.
