hello David
I didn't pursue the matter at all. It was just put down to a terrible mistake in my judgement and one for the learning curve. It was the last medal purchased from this type of site. I will only buy at fairs and reputable dealers sites suggested by a couple of 'long in the tooth' collector friends now.
Regards
David

The DoM QSA sold for £521 which is an intriguing figure. It is not the figure of a correct DoM QSA but nor does it it represent a QSA with a copy clasp. Its in the middle, neither one or the other.

Good morning David,
I think that is a really horrendous amount of money for something that is just so wrong, madness!

I am just looking at the latest Kaplan auction and a late entry QSA/Cape GS pair, that is described as taken a beating. I have asked for confirmation, but wonder if anyone can confirm this is an agreed standard description!!

Pair: Sergt A.F. BEGG C.T. Rangers F 6000 QSA : Bar Talana
Cape of Good Hope medal Bars: Transkei, Basutoland
The Cape of Good Hope medal is confirmed on the Roll. The QSA however has the initial altered. Both medals have taken a beating. Cape General Service Two bar medal is a great rarity.

Doug.

Back to the DofM clasp on the QSA to SAC; surely anyone bidding on such would check the roll or else seek advice. For a while I thought the buyer might be after a DofM clasp to complete a claspless QSA where the entitlement existed. However, Alcock offers a DofM clasp only for STG255 from memory and he is not hard to find! Someone is going to be really fraught when they do the most cursory of research. I think such a buyer would have little if any recourse if he/she sought a refund.
A real puzzle.

I have a feeling that we may see this medal back again with or without the DOM very soon.....
