I'll be coming from Cape Town to the UK in April, so if you have items languishing at City Coins perhaps I can assist.

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from a quick trip to South Africa and dropped in to see the ladies at City Coins.

The good news, which they were happy for me to share, is that there is a possibility of another postal auction later in the year.

I think it would be great to keep Natalies legacy going....RIP

City Coins have sent out an update this morning:

A message from us…

Hello

It’s been just over 6 months since Natalie Jaffe, my beloved mother, passed away. She founded City Coins with my father, the late Allen Jaffe, more than fifty years ago in 1967, in Tulbagh Square, Cape Town. City Coins still operates there today.

I worked very closely with my mother, especially during the last few years of her illness. It is with great pride that I would like to introduce myself to you, also on behalf of my 2 brothers, Joseph and Allen.

I’d also like to introduce Doron Duveen, who has joined us as a partner and as Managing Director. He’s on the ground daily in Cape Town with the rest of the team - Ruth, Nicole, Michael and Siya. A former client and friend of my mom, Doron brings a wealth of passion, energy and operational experience to the business. Welcome Doron!

The world of coins, medals, banknotes, tokens and collectibles is multi-faceted, complex and incredibly interesting. Not just from a South African perspective but globally. Doron and I are excited to learn, develop and grow the business.

We look forward to meeting you at some point and to learning about how we can help you with your collecting needs. Feel free to get in touch.

Warm regards,
Sharon and the team at City Coins

I wonder who they will get as their medal specialist now? In Natalie's time she could call upon the expertise of Rob Mitchell and Johan Van Zyl. Perhaps they will continue in that role.

Some excellent news in this week's announcement from City Coins:

Due to the demand and requests from all of our customers all over the world, we will be bringing out another medal auction, Postal Auction 74 in September.

This will be the first medal auction since the passing of my mother, Natalie, and will be dedicated to her. We would love to get the opportunity to sell your medals. Even if you’re not looking to sell, please consider consigning some special items to us to help make this an extra special auction.

Incidentally, the handwritten book from my father Allen Jaffe from Postal Medal Auction Number 1 was found this week. It is a true honour to continue with the family legacy and the strong foundation established by my beloved late parents.

As part of our new website (currently in production), we will have an online archive of all our medal auctions, so you will be able to track back the selling history of items over the years.
