Hmmm.. DHL also seem to want to charge me 20% VAT on my incoming lots. I guess I will need to speak with them tomorrow. Any key points to emphasise? This wasn't a problem with medals from the #71 sale in 2020, so I guess it must be a "benefit" of Brexit!

Hi Jan,

Just make it clear that the items are old medals over 100 years old.
They will check the documentation supplied by City Coins which will corroborate this.

I did have a few problems this time. An attempt was made to charge at 20% after their customs department had already agreed the levy should by 5%.

If you can, try and speak to Susan Studman (Operations Agent) on 0208 664 1005.
email: [email protected]

She was the person who finally sorted things out for me.

DHL just delivered my (modest) winning lots for CC73. In the end they were quite OK about amending the import duty down to 5% from 20%, mainly because the paperwork from City Coins clearly supported this classification, so thanks to them for being so professional. Thanks also to Neville for the advice.
I hope everyone else is enjoying their early Xmas presents from this sale!
Cheers,
Johnathan

Hi

I am grieved to report that Natalie Jaffe, of City Coins, Cape Town, passed away yesterday 17 January 2023.

This is deeply saddening news.

I was only able to get to know Natalie in the last few years and remember sitting in her office in Cape Town talking all things medals. It was very enjoyable.

I was able to work closely with Natalie on the 2020 catalogue and thoroughly enjoyed that experience, finding Natalie a real joy to work with.

I will miss her very much.

Very sad news. From what I understand she has been ill for a long time but, in typical Natalie fashion, she soldiered on - always delivering on her annual City Coins auctions no matter what, come what may.

A true legend and an inspiration to us all. She is already missed. I never met her but feel although I have lost a family member.
