Hi all

Sorry if this isn't the right category, but it is a start!

I have been looking at the annual events for talana in South Africa this year and might well be attending. I just wondered if anyone else is going and if there is any collective travelling and visits to be had please.

FRIDAY EVENING 17TH OCTOBER 2014: 18:00 – 20:00
➢ “Night at the Museum” Talana Museum style – come meet our ghosts and experience the museum come to life after dark and closing time.
➢ Evening talk on the battlefield – subject to be determined
➢ Food and refreshments will be on sale.

SATURDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2014: 10:00 – 17:30
• Parade through Dundee led by Pipe Band, re-enactors, cars and motor cycles
• Pipe Band performances during the day
• Choir performances during the day
• Heritage games, open air chess and mlabalaba
• Craft Stalls.
• Food and beverage court.
• Historical and heritage Demonstrations.
• Historical Talks and Video Show.
• Battle of Talana re-enactment 14:30
• Capture of Winston Churchill Re-enactment. 16:00
• Military encampments and demonstrations of “Red Coat” battle tactics
• Military and historic memorabilia on sale.
• Book stall
• Vintage and veteran cars, motor cycles, Steam engines
• Live art exhibitions in the grounds. Watch artists at work. Have your portrait sketched.
• Sunset parade and lowering of flags in cemetery. Piper and bugler.

Saturday evening MOTH Shellhole museum and pub will be open for fellowship
Ingudlane Lodge is offering a 2 hour game drive with guide and refreshments R150 p/person. Book directly with lodge 082-8797734.

SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2014:
7:00 Explanation on battle of Talana from Lennox hill with superb views over Talana museum and battlefield.
Breakfast at Ingudlane Lodge.

• Dundee Heritage Trail with wreath laying at Gen Penn Symons grave at St James church and also at Anton von Wouw memorial at Dutch Reformed church. 09:30 – 11.00
Led by Pam McFadden

Tour departs Info tent Talana Museum 11:30 am with qualified guides. Please take own packed lunch and refreshments.

Visit to Thornley farm (Boer headquarters, hospital of battle of Talana), Adelaide farm(scene of 18th Hussars and Boer skirmish), visit to newly discovered British fortifications protecting mountain passes into Natal.

I will be at Talana for the conference tomorrow staying at the Royal Country Hotel til Wednesday. Willing to share a bar tab and talk medals et al. Tomorrow I hope to be in Ladysmith.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

My niece and I arrived at the Royal in the early hours of the morning. I'm sure our paths with cross soon.

There were done very good presentations given at the conference today. I was also able to meet David Grant which was excellent.
