Ashton-in-Makerfield Boer War Tribute Medal

County: Lancashire
Issued on: Return
Date of presentation: 00/00/1902
Number issued: 1 ?

Gold medal, to:

32nd (Lancashire Hussars) Company, 2nd Bn. Imperial Yeomanry –
29364 Trooper James KAY

Obverse plain.

Reverse: "PRESENTED / TO / TROOPER J. KAY / BY HIS ASHTON FRIENDS / IN / RECOGNITION / OF HIS SERVICES IN / THE BOER WAR / 1901-2".

So far, I have only found reports of the presentation of Ashton-in-Makerfield tribute medals to the 1st contingent of Lancashire Hussars. This example may have been subscribed for by friends of Trooper Kay to make up for the fact that later contingents were not welcomed home with the generosity shown to the first.
