Good day, all.
I am new here, doing ancestry research for a family member.
Henry Hutchinson, Burger, served General de la Rey. I am trying to get more information on this man.
There were two Henry Hutchinsons, father and son.
Henry H born in 1836 was a medical doctor on the diamond fields and later practised medicine at Bloemhof and Christiana. He would have been 63 at the outbreak of the Boer War. Family lore is he sided with the Boers. Is this the one mentioned here? He might have had occasion to meet de la Rey in the diamond fields 20 years earlier and kept up the contact.
Henry H born in 1876.
He is likely the one recorded elsewhere as a POW in Ceylon at age 23. After the war, he became a medical doctor, like his father, and also practised in Bloemhof. (His brother Allen also fought with the Boers and was a prisoner on St Helena.)
It is the Henry Hutchinson who served with de la Rey that I am trying to identify. Any help or suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks.
