ABO (Burger P.J. Fourie). City Coins August 2008

There were 7 Burghers named PJ. Fourie who received an ABO medal. However, this particular medal was purchased directly from the family and is accompanied by a number of newspaper and magazine articles based on the recollections of the recipient. In these articles Fourie recalls the events of the 6 May 1902 when a Zulu Force under Native Chief Sikobobo massacred the Boer Vryheid Commando at Holkrantz. 56 Burgers were killed and Fourie was one of only 12 Burgers who escaped. Exceedingly rare.

His son's medal was sold at the same time.
