Trooper Edgar (Ted) Spender and two of his comrades had their horses shot from beneath them and were taken prisoner on the 18th August 1900 at Malmani River, Buffel Hoek, South Africa. They were held very briefly by the Boers and released on the 14th September.
Reference in page 2 of the 2nd bottom paragraph of the newspaper article attached.
