He was from Wolverhampton. A family story goes that Daniel, was hurt in the Boer war, a Boer family took him in. His English family came to search for him and Alan, one of his sons stayed in South Africa!

Welcome to the forum. I think you are going to supply more info re your GGF; if you can. I had a look in the Palmer Casualty roll for a D.Burnett (in case "hurt" meant injured or wounded) and only two. One with Strathcona's Horse (Canadian) and another with the Highland Light Infantry. Family stories sometimes tend towards the fanciful; but you never know. Does the family know what Regiment he served with?
Good luck
IL.

Thank you for that. I have since found a discharge certificate in the name of Private A Burnett, no. 1402 Manchester Companies, R A M C Volunteer Corps, 11th March 1901 to 1st of April 1904. Daniel had a son Alan born 1884 in Wolverhampton. I have had no luck in finding anything about either of them!
