Hi, Im trying to find any, and I mean ANY, info on the gentleman in this photo. Charles William Hudson from Hull.

He was awarded the QSA medal and it appears to have 5 bars, but I can't find any info about what regiment he served in or anything on him.

He was born in Sculcoates, Hull in 1877 and died in 1935.

Apparantly he often joked about winning his medal in the "boer war, front row" so it makes me think he was in a fairly active unit.

Any info that anyone can offer would be gratefully and gladly accepted.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Sadly, a very common name, a number of possible men on the rolls in WO100, so, if you are sure he served in the Army, the best way to go about this would be to look at every man with that name in WO97, WO363 and WO364 available at Kew and on line.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've checked out quite a few in the past, but the REAL problem is when I look at their medal entitlements theres always 3 or 4 bars, never 5 bars , as you see in the photo.

Andy,

You may already know this and apologies if you do but for many men, the total medal entitlement is spread over more than one roll page. In the case of a man who earned only the QSA it is possible that he received the 1901 clasp on the Supplementary roll to accompany the 4 clasps on the QSA roll.

Best wishes
David

I had a quick look at the index in FindMyPast. There many C W Hudsons and some born in 1877 but none with a hometown of Hull (many are blank). If you have a FMP subscriptions, one option would be to go through these records. They are not a complete record of course so his may not be present but it might be worth a trawl?

Hello and thanks for looking. He was born in Hull, but in the parish of Sculcoates, so his birth is rgistered as SCULCOATES, and not as Hull. And NO, I didn't know about the fact they could be spread over more than one page...When they dd all this a hundred years ago I bet they never thought about the headache they would cause a century later to people researching.
