Well, never mind David, it is strange how, with the passage of time, medals certainly do improve as the years roll by! (I would certainly make sure to examine the KSA with considerable care.)

Picking up on Mike's post about the group to Karri-Davies , here are some pictures from eBay.

The pictures show the late naming very well. The BWM is included as a comparison.

Hi all,

New to the site - just doing a bit of research on a medal I recently picked up. Dvr Wilson, 42nd RFA. Not sure how common the Laing's Nek clasp is to this Battery. Rather surprised to see how much a similar example is for sale on another site: medalsofengland.com/medals.php?id=140&medalid=518

Thanks, Jon

A medal to the 42nd is far better, during the defence of Manchester Fort and Ceasar's Camp on the 6th of January 1900, they actually switched to canister and engaged the enemy at less than one hundred yards! :woohoo:
The battle was bloody!

JBS,

Welcome to the Forum and what a great picture to open with!

I think there are only 6 Elandslaagte + Laing's Nek combinations to the 42nd Battery:

Bomb Cleaver
Cpl Cook
Sgt Evans
Cpl McGarry
Sgt Talbot
Dvr Wilson

Best wishes
David

JBS,

You're in luck. There are service papers for George Wilson.
