Perhaps worth keeping for posterity. Late issue circa 1917 I seem to recall.

Issued 1912, noted on the medal roll but not WO127 as a "Cape Boy" (others are).

Would love to see the correspondence that led to him being issued a medal, most likely the circumstances of his wounding contributed. I would suspect an officer petitioned the authorities.

Very nice medal.

I am sure there was a OMRS article about the 14-17 (?) odd medals issued in 1912. Certainly I was offered one 15 odd years ago and researched it perfunctorily . Now I can not find the reference. I passed it up in preference to a bronze to the 23rd Pioneers - silly me. The chap who got it estate sold it on to the Castle of Good Hope.

I can now report that I am the proud owner of the Cornelius medal. It was a rather pricey birthday present to myself .
I now look forward to finding more about Cornelius, who may have been non-european, or as suggested in the OMRS article of bronze medals, being a late claimant, was given whatever medal was available in stock. Its a bit rough that he was given a bronze medal with no clasps when he was a fighting man and was seriously wounded in action as previously mentioned.
I'll let you know if I find anything generally interesting or can throw some more light on bronze QSAs. If anybody has any info on Cornelius or Dennison's Scouts, I should be very interested to hear from you.
Thanks
Mike

I am sorry Mike, we are just going to have to be the worst of enemies now. The "Dogtor" on the other end of the bidding was getting mighty irritated with the oke who had left an insane bid.

Penalty- I hope this gives you plenty of headaches now sorting through all this .
