Welcome to the Forum. Would you kindly let us know why you think your GF served during any of the various conflicts in South Africa? It would be helpful if you could give some hints as to any possible regiment etc. Even family reminiscences may assist.
Regards
IL.

Thank you for your reply. To the best of my memory it was the Ontario Regiment (Toronto).

Hello Virginia,

If you use the Name Search option, there are 4 W H Dodds listed on the site. Three who served during the Boer Was 1999-1902 and one on the Frontier Wars in 1877-79. If your grandfather was Canadian, it is unlikely that he served in the Frontier War (but not impossible). Of the three names during the Boer War, one was probably South Africa and the other two probably British as they served in the Royal Scots and Warwick regiments.

Any more information you can provide would be very helpful.

Best wishes
David

Hello Virginia

Is it possible you can provide the forum with your Grandfather's place of birth please? Also, any additional information you or your family may have pertaining to his profession, his parents names, his children and if there are any medals within the family? The more clues we have the better chance of finding information that may help you.

There are quite a few W H Dodd's to trawl through on various geneological sites albeit mostly regarding WW1 service details. However, David has already mentioned the 3 main contenders who may be relevant to your Grandfather. If you could share as much information as you can it may help to ascertain if they are relevant. The only Dodd I could locate with the Canadian colonial regiments who were in South Africa was a Victor Dodd.

However, it is very possible your Grandfather served in a British regiment before he may have arrived in Canada. I am assuming he was born in the UK before he emigrated to Canada? Please advise if this is correct or if I am completely wrong?

Best regards
