Hi everyone, I am completely new to Boer War research so please excuse my ignorance.
My great-uncle, Edwin James Walding served with the DCLI and received the Queen's and King's medals. I have a photograph of him at home with his family in his uniform if you would like to see it.
Any information on him would be great.
Many thanks.
Ron

Edward Walding, interestingly, moreover, perhaps predictably, given his place of birth, a nineteen year old "shoe hand" from Northampton, joined the Army, the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry at Leicester, on the 17th of November 1899, posted to their Depot at Bodmin, on the 20th of that month, he joined the 2nd Battalion on the 21st of February 1900, he served in South Africa during the Anglo Boer War from the 16th of August that same year until the 16th of October 1902, he secured his own discharge the same day after he paid the sum of £18.
A most fascinating photograph, he gave his next of kin as his mother, Rose, his brothers, Herbert, George and James, his sisters, Rose, Elizabeth, Nelly, Ada and Lilly.
On the face of it, a most interesting gentleman and well worth you looking into!

Thank you so much for replying. He sounds a brave bloke. Even his photo scared us kids! He had a large family, as you can see. There are also some names here I haven't found, so off I go, back to the search!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
