I have a letter from MOD with sparse details, was hand written 1966. I have Private in Royal Warwickshire Regiment and his medal awards. However cannot find anything searching this website. Even his service number or name does not come up. Unfortunately he died (here in England) when I was 3. My dad also had no information other than the above letter (the actual medals were sold by Grandad). Other searches I have done Ancestry etc come up blanks.
My Grandad was born, bred and died in Yorkshire so don't understand why the letter states Royal Warwicks.
Is there any possibility of finding his actual medals?
Would love to find any info about this history.

5847 Private Samuel WAUD but creasing + handwritten so 5 and 7 may be wrong. Tried searching on 84 and 284 but no luck.
Thanks

5847 will be correct, but, this man served in their 3rd Battalion, from memory, they only arrived in South Africa in late 1901 and provided men for MI Companies.
There is a Samuel Waud in WO329 who served in the Great War, did he serve in that war?

Okay, well that is your man, a great shame he sold his medals, I hope for your own sake they still exist and that you find them one day, an uphill task I'm afraid. :(
