Well.......
Hi all my name is Steve Bailey and I am researching my great-grandpa Harry Aldridge.
He was born in High Wycombe in 1874 and died there too aged 43 in 1918.

After jumping to a conclusion that he died in the Great War, it turned out he died of stomach cancer but was listed as a war pensioner.
Once again I jumped to the conclusion that this was the Great War but somebody kindly put up the following info on ancestry.com:

Harry ALDRIDGE, Private, No.4670 5thB The Royal Fusiliers.

Attested 8th June 1893, Aged 19 years.
Height 65 1/4 inches., Weight 133 lbs, Chest 34-36inches.
Complexion Fresh, Eyes Grey, Hair Light Brown.

Church of England.
Trade: Chairmaker.

Discharged 10th July 1902, Woolwich.
Medically unfit for further service. [no details given]
Age 28 yrs 1 month, Height 5 feet 7 inches, Chest 38 inches,
Complexion Fresh, Eyes Grey, Hair Light Brown.
Descriptive marks: Mole abdomen.
Trade: Chairmaker.
Intended place of Residence: Victoria Street, High Wycombe, Bucks.
Conduct/Character: Very Good. In possession of 2 G.C. Badges.
Medals/Decorations: South African Medal.
Certificate of Education 2nd Class.

Source: Service record.

So again I've jumped to another conclusion that perhaps he served in the 2nd Boer War......

So here I am researching a war that has never really appeared on my radar, a man I have never met or even have a picture of!

So please bear with me as I post requests for answer to silly and obvious questions and generally go around in circles!!

Thanks all!!
