David,

Very many thanks for that, I have sent Ian an email.

Frank,

I remember seeing in the Upfill-Brown collection a BSAC medal which also had another medal with it ;this having the word "fake" or similar engraved on the edge. The original was I think to a casualty/officer.

What a superb collection that was!

I hope to be able to add some British Army examples in the near future, having missed a lovely 7th Hussars example to a chap who lived near Preston, Lancashire and died of disease.

Regards to both,

Mark

Hello Mark,
From experience I can tell you that you might be able to end up with basic biographical information depending upon if and how long the recipient remained in Rhodesia, but, regarding the actual service, under arms, on campaign, the chances are far less likely given the nature of the campaign and the way these men were attested, which in some cases was merely for a couple of weeks.
Yes, the men of Carrington's force are quite nice, in particular the 7th Hussars, don't buy it on it's own, unless, the sole entitlement, a five clasp QSA was the norm to that particular regiment.
Regards Frank

Hello Frank,

That is the sort of information I was hoping for.

I am now on the lookout for a nice 7th Hussars pair; thank you for your advice; most welcome and greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Mark

If you do not already have a copy, the following book is a mine of useful and interesting information:

The '96 Rebellions. The British South Africa Company Reports on the Native Disturbances in Rhodesia, 1896-97.
Rhodesiana Reprint Library - Silver Series. Volume two.
Books of Rhodesia, Bulawayo, 1975.

Brett

Brett,

Very many thanks; I have managed to track one down on Amazon and I should have it just in time for me to take on my holiday to the Isle of Skye!

One of the joys of medal collecting is "theme" changing as everything you read about is new and fascinating.

Regards

Mark
