Hello everybody,

I have had a very frustrating morning trying to find two sets of 3rd IY papers on FMP. The first Tpr Alfred Oades 28000 11th Coy Yorkshire Dragoons is especially frustrating as I have been given a partial photocopy so I know they exist somewhere. The second set is to Pte Alcide James Stevens 30398 111th Coy IY. The medal roll only shows his initials but his full name appears in Asplin's roll so I conclude his papers must also exist somewhere. I suspect that I will need to visit the NA in person or hire a researcher but wondered if any of the forum experts might be able to point me in the right direction.

Regards
Paul

It is annoying, a manual search in WO128 is needed!

Hello Paul

The best way to search IY papers on FMP is to go to "British Army Service Records 1760-1915" then enter WO128 in the "Series" box, and also search "British Army Service Records 1760-1915" with "*yeomanry*" in the "Regiment" box.

I can't find your two guys either and agree they should be there. I have told FmP about this problem some years ago and given examples but they have done f all about it (as Tommy Atkins might say).

Thank you for looking Meurig and confirming that it isn't just me being incompetent. I have a list of 8 further yeomen that aren't there either and am rather fed up with FMP at present. On another topic entirely, do you know if there are any papers for Lumsden's Horse anywhere?

Hello Paul

Send me the names etc and indicate if you know papers exist in WO128 at Kew, I will prod FmP again.

Lumsden's Horse - sorry no, but FmP have a lot of India Office Records mostly BMD, also try www.fibis.org . What name?

Thank you Meurig,

I have sent a list by PM. My Lumsden's are

Tpr H N Shaw
Tpr F G Bateman
269 Tpr J F Richey
174 Tpr M W Clifford
91 Tpr C F Hayes

There is some info in Pearse's book but presumably there must have been attestation papers. I will have a look at fibis.org
