To the best of my knowledge the last claimant for the Anglo Boere Oorlog Medalje was in the 1980's.

I think they stopped issuing medals after that which, even though you can prove your relative was there, means that you won't be able to get a medal issued for him. I don't think there are any stocks of these medals left

Regards

Rory

Hi Rory,

Thank you for that is there any way then of been able to find out what sort of medal it would of been so I can at least try and look and see what it looks like. You talk about stocks of these medals been left where and who would hold this information as I willing to try even if it comes up been uneventful I can at least make reference to what he would of been entitled to.

Hello Lee Anne

I attach hereto a photo of what the medal issued to those who fought with the Boers looks like. Your relatives would have been able to claim this medal from the early 1920's onwards.

I suggest you get in touch with the SANDF documentation centre in Pretoria who may be able to assist you or e-mail Dewald Nel who could assist you '[email protected]'

Regards and good luck

Rory

This medal is named the Anglo-Boer War Medal in its English translation, and Anglo-Boere Oorlog Medalje in Dutch/Afrilkaans. Just as the British medals for this war are abbreviated to QSA and KSA, this one is the ABO.
