It looks like Forces War Records has the sole list of 40,000 Home Guard officers.

A mind blowing group Henk and that's without the added bonus of the WWII gongs!!

Simply stunning and definitely one you must cherish.

Hi David
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
I accessed Forces War Records under T May, Thomas May, T J May and Thomas James May.
Nothing in WWII
Listed as Major RFA in WWI
Surprisingly, nothing in Boer War!!
Nothing in earlier Victorian conflicts.
How reliable/complete are their records or did I "press the wrong buttons"?
Any comments?
Henk

A long service group at the next Spink sale. Sadly, no picture.

QSA (3) CC Tr Witt (Corpl: A. E. H. Carrick. Brabant's Horse);
KSA (2) (33486 Serjt: A. E. H. Carrick. Scottish Horse.);
Natal (1) 1906 (Dvr: A. E. H. Carrick, B. Battery N.F.A.);
1914-15 Star (Gnr. A. E. H. Carrick 12th Cit. Batt.);
BWM and VM (Gnr. A. E. H. Carrick, 12th Cit. Batt.);
War Medal 1939-45 (D470 A. E. H. Carrick);
Africa Service Medal (D470 A. E. H. Carrick)

Alfred Ernest Henry Carrick was born in 1867 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, the son of Thomas James Carrick and his wife Selina Henrietta Carrick. He married Jennie Alicia Bray in Sydney on 5 January 1891, but the marriage failed with reports in the Sydney Evening News of Alfred being placed on remand and charged with having assaulted a 'Miss Ellen Simmons'; the pair were divorced in 1894 and Alfred travelled to South Africa to serve during the Boer War. He subsequently served in the Natal Field Artillery at the time of the Bambata Rebellion in 1906, in addition to active service with the 12th Citizen Battery in German South-West Africa in the Great War.

David any anyone interested
"33486 Tpr. A.E.H.Carrick served with 2nd Scottish Horse and came from Redfern NSW. Interestingly, there is a photo of his attestation paper in the book "Southern Cross Scots"; which confirms his first names and gives his age as thirty-two years. His civilian calling was "telegraphist". He served two enlistments; 28/10/01 to 27/4/02 and 28/4/02 to 6/7/02. His conduct was "Exemplary". His NofK was his Mother, Mrs. Ridley of Redfern, NSW.
Quite a nice group.
Regards
IL.

Hi All

Superb grouping with such long service. I wanted to point out that the numbering on the WW2 medals is special. The South Africans had block numbering systems for WW2 and various prefixes. These prefixed mostly should the racial and gender denomination. N for Native, C for Coloured, W for Woman. This D470 is part of a special numbering system for the ESPC. This is normally on 639400-640640 or 700k range but some are numbered with this series and the D will stand for Durban.

Over 40 years of collecting in South Africa we do not see many of the Boer War - WW2 service groups and it is even more uncommon to see Boer Was groupings with Campaign stars for ww2.

Please can forum members share more these wonderful groups.

Kind regards

Munroe
