……Lieutenant R. Burns Begg, of Kitchener's Horse, who has been appointed assistant officer (Intelligence Department) to General Maxwell, Military Governor of Pretoria, is a Fifeshire man [incorrect - he was from Kinross-shire], and was called to the Scottish Bar in 1895. He settled in Bulawayo two years ago, practising as a barrister before the High Court of Rhodesia. Last year he visited this country, and on his return to Cape Town found the railway to Rhodesia in the hands of the Boers. He then volunteered for active service, and obtained a commission in Kitchener's Horse.

……Lieutenant R. Burns Begg, who is now on the staff of General Maxwell, the Military Governor of Pretoria, is a grand-nephew of our national poet. Robert Burns Begg, sen., son of Mr John Begg and Isabella Burns, the poet's youngest sister, was for half a century schoolmaster of Kinross. His son, Robert Burns Begg, is Sheriff Clerk of Kinross-shire, whose elder son, Burns Begg, is now, as state above, on the staff of General Maxwell.

AMATEUR DRAMA AT KIRRIEMUIR.
……A successful repetition of Mr H. J. Byron's diverting comedy, "Our Boys," which was produced in Alyth last week by a distinguished party of amateurs, was given on Monday in the Public Hall, Kirriemuir. The performance, as on the former occasion, was arranged by the Bamff family in aid of the funds of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association...…….Captain Burns Begg appeared to advantage as Kempster, a man servant.

……Captain Burns Begg, late of Kinross, who acted as prosecutor in the recent trial of the rebels in South Africa, is home at present on leave previous to taking up his new appointment as junior counsel in the High Court of Pretoria, which opens next month. The gallant Captain has been frequently in action at the front. A nephew of the Rev. Dr Begg, the greatly esteemed parish minister of Abbotshall, he was in Kirkcaldy on Thursday on a visit to his friends.

RESIDENT COMMISSIONER IN RHODESIA.
……We understand that the office of Resident Commissioner in Rhodesia has been offered to, and accepted by, Colonel R. Burns Begg, K.C., lately Commissioner of Police in the Transvaal. The appointment rests with the Imperial Government, and is held for two years.

COLONEL R. BURNS BEGG.
……The death has occurred at 9 Rothesay Place, Edinburgh, as the result of illness contracted in France, of Colonel R. Burns Begg, graded as Assistant Adjutant-General on the Staff. He was a member of the Faculty of Advocates, to which he was admitted in 1895, but he practised law in South Africa, and was a King's Counsel in the Transvaal. Before the outbreak of war he was Resident Commissioner of Southern and Northern Rhodesia, and resided at Salisbury, Rhodesia.
