Private George Tanner, 19th Hussars. Died of enteric fever during the siege of Ladysmith, South Africa, on 19th February 1900, aged 27. "This plaque is erected by some of his fellow villagers" and is in the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Norton-sub-Hamdon, Somerset.

I have to echo Brett's comments and ask a question..... Are these the names of all the men who were buried in Intombi Cemetary or do they still have individual headstones???

This type of small memorial never fails to impress me, they must have been quite expensive to commission, even by the standards of the day.
