Boer War 1899 - 1902

My great grandfather was William Bowen, a harnessmaker by trade from Mullingar, Ireland before joining up for the 2nd Boer War. It would seem possible that William Bowen 39742 listed as a Saddler Lance Corporal, 131st (Irish Horse) Company, 29th Battalian could be him. Is there any way of researching this query? Would be most grateful for any input. Irene
