Boer War 1899 - 1902

If the CIV Battery returned to Britain in October 1900, what happened to Major McMicking? I have record of him leading a force (not sure if artillery or mounted infantry) attached to or fighting with 1st KFS in June/July 1901 around Zand River Poort and Nylstrom.
