Sydney de Bohun Lockyer was born in Middlesex in 1855.
He served with the Mercantile Marine with P & O Steamship Company, obtaining
his Master's Certificate and joined the Royal Naval Reserve in 1889.
He became Sub Lieutenant in June 1889 and was promoted Lieutenant in May
1892. For the Boer War he was in command of the hospital ship 'Simla',
which could accommodate 278 sick people. He retired from the RNR with
the rank of Commander in Oct 1901 having served 12 years. He was
recalled for WW1 in Sep 1915, appointed to HMS President for "Miscellaneous
or Special Service." He must have served at sea during the War.
By Oct 1918 he was a Qualified Transport Officer 1st Grade at President V1.
For his WW1 services he was awarded the OBE and promoted to Captain RNR on
the Retired List. OBE LG 4 Jul 1919. RD LG 14 May 1918. He
died 23 July 1924, aged 69.
