The obverse shows a figure of Victory above the Kimberley Town Hall, the
dates 1899-1900 and the words 'SOUTH AFRICA'. The reverse has the
inscription in two shields 'INVESTED 15 OCT 1899' and 'RELIEVED 15 FEB 1900'.
There is an Imperial Crown, Royal Cipher and the words 'TO THE GALLANT DEFENDERS
OF KIMBERLEY'.
The creation of the Kimberley Medal was by the Mayor and Council of
Kimberley. It was struck in England but, due to the fact that its
incorporated an unsanctioned Royal Cipher on the reverse, most of the medals
were melted down. No medals were issued and it is unclear how many medals
survived.
