ABO (Burger H. Bernard). City Coins September 2005.

He saw action at three well-known battles in the Free State:

- The Lindley affair (25 -31 May 1900) when some 460 Yeomen were captured,
- Graspan near Reitz (6 June 1901) where both sides lost some 50 killed and wounded and
- Groenkop East of Bethlehem where General de Wet overran the British camp on the night of 24 - 25 December 1901.
