I looked briefly at WO372 and WO329, the former does confirm entry into theatre 2b, the wretched Dardanelles, the latter shows Great War service in the 1st, 3rd and 9th Battalions Border Regiment, I also note his wife received the sum of one pound, sixteen shillings and a penny on the 16th of August 1915 after his account had been settled, she also received a war gratuity of three pounds in 1919, precious little, I suspect that being a labourer in a shipyard, whilst not as exciting, was, certainly rather more secure and certain, fortunes of war, I suppose.
